Patients of different age groups have to face unpleasant back pain. As a rule, discomfort in the body is a manifestation of serious diseases or the result of severe muscle tension. In most cases, pathology occurs due to structural changes in the joints, soft tissues or nerve endings of the vertebral body. The symptom of pain is also the result of internal organs not working properly.
Etiology of back pain
By localization of pain in the dorsal part of the body, it is possible to determine the nature of the disturbance in the work of the body. Discomfort appears in the lower part with the affected bone tissue and the development of intervertebral hernia, as well as damage to the abdominal organs. If back pain is observed in the upper zone, this is a sign of aortic diseases, inflammatory processes in the respiratory organs, and the formation of tumors in the chest. Unpleasant sensations accompanied by fever, nausea, indigestion on the entire surface of the back require immediate medical attention, because they indicate serious health problems.
The main causes of back pain are associated with such diseases:
- osteomyelitis affecting the bone marrow;
- oncological neoplasms;
- the formation of hernias in intervertebral hernias;
- scoliosis;
- cartilage damage;
- fibromyalgia.
Often, back pain is not related to a change in the structure of the spine. At this time, pelvic bleeding or compression of the nerve endings in the sternum can be observed. Discomfort between the shoulder blades can be related to peptic ulcers or arthritis. Pain that spreads to both sides at the same time is the first sign of appendicitis. Unpleasant sensations can appear after prolonged exposure to low temperatures, repeated lifting of heavy objects, severe coughing or in an uncomfortable position. Back pain often occurs after bone fractures, regardless of location.
Features of the treatment of back pain
First aid measures are given to patients in case of unbearable pain. To do this, you can put a cold compress on the problem area, take painkillers and exclude physical activity. Today, chondroprotectors are actively used in the treatment of back pain. Their injection form guarantees maximum bioavailability and speed of action of the drug, which stops the destruction of cartilage tissues and relieves inflammation. The course of treatment may include:
- warming ointments;
- drugs that eliminate tissue spasms;
- physiotherapy procedures;
- therapeutic massages;
- acupuncture.
If necessary, it is prescribed to wear a special corset that reduces the load on the waist and lumbar area. In some cases, surgical interventions involving the installation of intervertebral prostheses are performed.
